Metro - August 2006
The experience gained from 22 vintages of pinot noir is invaluable
and this wine proves that the winemakers at Martinborough Vineyard
have the perfect credencials for making the most of a difficult
grape variety. Where others interpret, Claire Mulholland and her
team define the style. It's beautifully balanced with as much textural
finesse as finely woven silk.Luscious cherry and spice flavours
quickly envelope the palate and last well beyond the last rich,
gently smoky and generous mouthful.
Grill Magazine - July 2006
Fine nose with spicy oak and fluid cherry characters. Bright, fresh
impact is all about fruit with cherries and raspberry characters
followed through the mid palate by a creek water earthiness and
warm spice. Good depth and intensity, but always fresh and keenly
balanced between acid and fruit. Pretty wine that should grow into
something fine and fragrant.
Food & Beverage Magazine - June
2006
Cherries and spices give all the recognisable aromas and tones of
the grape, while the thicker texture reflects the Martinborough
Vineyard style where some of the vines are 25 years old. A mix of
many clones in the Burgundy tradition gives a complex and intense
Pinot Noir, opening up steadily.
Otago Daily Times May 2006 - Charmaine

Over 22 vintages Martinborough Vineyard has gained a reputation
as one of New Zealands leading Pinot Noir makers and this young
wine is worthy of it's pedigree. It is already developing complexities,
dark fruit and spice, the exciting lift of cherry plums, and the
texture, balance and length that mark it as a good wine. But what
made it really stand out was its vibrant intensity - I felt as if
things had suddenly come into focus, as if colours had become sharper
and brighter. **** 1/2 stars.
The Northern Advocate - May 2006 - Graeme
Barrow
Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir 04: One of the famous names of
New Zealand pinot noir, and rightly so. Big (14) and weighty, yet
elegant and ripe and juicy, it has good concentration and complexity.
Cherries, spice, dried herbs and a sniff of smoky oak, plus lovely
texture, soft tannins, and a fine finish. This is a New Zealand
pinot which can be cellared with confidence.
