May 2006 - EDITOR'S CHOICE
Martinborough Vineyard Jackson Block Riesling
2005 - "Riesling
would be one of my favourite New Zealand white wines and this one
from Martinborough Vineyard is made in a style I really like!.
The 2004 version was great and the 2005 looks just as good.
The wines are made from a selected block in the Jackson Vineyard,
a small family owned site where the grapes are all hand picked
and sorted. Following gentle pressing the juice is given a long,
cool fermentation and stopped so that there is just a little residual
sweetness.
The wine has the lovely floral and citrus characters as you would
expect from a good Riesling but there is an added steeliness and
flintiness. We had it on the deck with pan-fried gurnard, crusty
bread and a crisp, light salad as the sun went down. Great." Martin

Martinborough Vineyard Manu Riesling
2005 - Moderately sweet Riesling with a suggestion of honey, adding
complexity to lime, lemon and orange blossom flavours. Silken-textured
wine with an impressively lingering finish. An outstanding example
with potential for further bottle development. 93 Points.

Martinborough Vineyard
Jackson Block Riesling 2005 - Winemaker Claire Mulholland has captured
the essence of Riesling readily on display in the seductive medley
of fresh lime and ginger/spice aromas. Superbly textured, concentrated
layers of fresh citrus/lime are laced with peach/quince and the
dazzling array of flavours intensifies in a beautifully cleansing
finish. Drink a few early then put the rest in the cellar to enjoy
2010-2015.

Martinborough Vineyard Manu
Riesling 2005. The 2005 vintage (*** 1/2) was harvested with 'a
touch' of noble rot in the Jackson and company-owned vineyards
on the Martinborough Terrace. A medium-sweet style (27 grams/litre
of residual sugar), pale, light and smooth, it has a scented bouquet
and fresh, lemony, appley flavours. Drink now or cellar.

Martinborough Vineyard
Manu Riesling 2005. A late-picked riesling showing lots of ripe
mandarin, jasmin and floral aromas with a touch of honey. It is
light in body with a lovely thread of acidity and a smidgeon of
residual sweetness. Served as the aperitif wine at Martinborough
Vineyard's 25th anniversary dinner it did the job perfectly, stimulating
the taste-buds for what lay ahead while providing enough flavour
to counterbalance the nibbles.

Pale hue. Subtle green fruit on the nose. In the mouth, soft honeyed
